1 goal, 1 assist: The QPR star who shone in Middlesbrough draw

Queens Park Rangers and Middlesbrough played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in the Sky Bet Championship yesterday evening, as both fought hard for important points up at the top of the table.

Rangers, of course, are looking to try and break into the top two and at least keep a top six spot for the end of the campaign, whilst Middlesbrough are aiming to break into those play-off places and stay there under Chris Wilder.

Suitably, then, it was a keenly-contested affair and some of the big names stepped up to the plate, with Chris Willock’s performance perhaps the most notable.

The obvious standout statistics from his performance, of course, were the goal and the assist that he grabbed.

He first laid the ball on for Ilias Chair to convert – and QPR fans will be pleased to see those two working together once again after AFCON – before scoring himself just after half-time to restore Rangers’ lead.

Of course, an Albert Adomah own goal would peg Rangers back once more in the second half and the spoils would be shared but the result failed to take the gloss off of Willock’s individual display.

The deeper stats away from the headline goal and assist tell us it was a fine all-round performance from Willock, though you only needed to be watching the game to see that.

He had a pass success rate of 88% – the highest of any player that started the game and so played the most minutes – whilst he also recorded the most key passes of any QPR on the pitch on Wednesday night, underlining how crucial he was to their attacking output.

He also made the most dribbles of any player on the pitch, as he carried the ball forwards well as he tried to take the game to Middlesbrough.
