Seny Dieng update emerges following QPR’s draw with Middlesbrough

Queens Park Rangers manager Mark Warburton has revealed that Seny Dieng could potentially make his return to action in this weekend’s clash with Barnsley.

Dieng has missed a considerable chunk of action in recent weeks after being called up by Senegal for the African Cup of Nations.

The goalkeeper made two appearances in the tournament as Senegal won their first ever major international trophy.

In the absence of Dieng, David Marshall has been handed the opportunity to impress by Warburton.

The Scotland international has featured on five occasions for QPR in the Championship whilst he also started for the club in their FA Cup defeat to Peterborough United.

Marshall was unable to keep a clean-sheet in last night’s clash with Middlesbrough as both sides were forced to settle for a point at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.

QPR took the lead on two separate occasions in this fixture as Ilias Chair and Chris Willock scored for the hosts.

Middlesbrough fought back to seal a point in the second-half as an own-goal from Albert Adomah levelled proceedings.

Following this clash, Warburton shared an update on Dieng.

Speaking to West London Sport about the keeper, Warburton said: “He lands Seny tomorrow [this] morning.”

Asked whether Dieng could be involved on Saturday, the QPR boss said: “Potentially.”

The Verdict

If Dieng is available for selection this weekend, Warburton will have a dilemma on his hands as Marshall has produced some assured performances since joining the club last month.

In the six appearances that he has made for QPR, the 36-year-old has managed to keep a respectable total of three clean-sheets.
