SAI Approves Financial Assistance Of Rs 33 Lakh For Asian Games And WC-Bound TOPS Archers

The Sports Authority of India's (SAI) Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) on Wednesday approved financial assistance of Rs 33.18 lakh for its Target Olympics Podium Scheme's (TOPS) development archers. The beneficiaries include Parth Salunkhe, Aditya Choudhary, Dipti Kumari, Simranjeet Kaur, Neeraj Chauhan, Ridhi, Madhu Vedwan, Sudhanshu Bisht, Divyansh Kumar, and Tisha Punia. Each archer will approximately receive around Rs 3.5 lakh to buy equipments.

A Greek climber died Tuesday on Nepal's rugged Mount Dhaulagiri, expedition organisers said, in the first recorded fatality of this year's busy Himalayan spring climbing season. Antonios Sykaris's death came a day after a triumphant Instagram message announcing he had made it to the top of the world's seventh-highest peak. The 59-year-old had fallen ill while descending, mountain guide Mingma Sherpa of Seven Summit Treks told AFP.

A 15-year-old Russian karter has been sacked by his team and is being investigated by the International Automobile Federation (FIA) for making what appeared to be a Nazi salute after winning a race. Artem Severiukhin, competing under an Italian licence because the FIA has banned Russian competitors, struck his chest twice with his fist before extending his right arm on the winner's podium in Portimao, Portugal. The Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has finalised the Annual Calendar of Training and Competitions (ACTCs) for 33 Sports disciplines and earmarked a sum of Rs 259 crores for the financial year 2022-23 as Assistance to various National Sports Federations (NSFs). Of this, as much as Rs 190 crores will be spent on athletes for their training, foreign exposure, equipment and support staff for Commonwealth Games 2022 and Asian Games 2022.
