Pole Vaulter Mondo Duplantis Sets 'Dream' World Record

Sweden's Mondo Duplantis bettered his own pole vault world record as he soared to gold at the World Indoor Championships on Sunday, but Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen's bid to further underline his 1500m dominance came a cropper. US-born Duplantis cleared 6.20 metres at the third time of asking, 1cm better than his previous best set in the same Stark Arena in Belgrade just two weeks ago. As soon as main rivals Chris Nilsen and Thiago Braz had fallen by the wayside, Duplantis had no hesitation about raising the bar to a record height.

Marc Marquez missed out on the Indonesian MotoGP after a horrific warm-up crash before the start of Sunday's race, which was also delayed by heavy rain. The six-time world champion was thrown off from his bike on turn seven during the morning's 20-minute warm-up session at the Mandalika International Street Circuit. After he was catapulted from his bike, his Honda also somersaulted mid-air as the Spaniard landed heavily on his left arm and hit his helmet on the ground.

Yaroslava Mahuchikh overcame the "total panic" of armed conflict in her native Ukraine to win gold in the high jump at the World Indoor Championships on Saturday. Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Mahuchikh was forced to flee her home, hide out in a cellar and eventually make the 2,000km trip over three days to Belgrade to face what she dubbed her own front line. The reigning European indoor high jump champion, who won Olympic bronze in Tokyo and world outdoor silver in Doha in 2019, left her home in Dnipro just three weeks ago as the conflict escalated.

Indian cueist Pankaj Advani faced stiff competition against Pauk Sa of Myanmar in the semi-final match of the Asian Billiards Championship 2022. In the first game, Pankaj missed after scoring 18 points. Pauk Sa imposed a well-crafted break of 71 points though Pankaj secured the first game having a counter break of 82 points. In the second game, Pankaj sent a century break to obtain a 2-0 lead. He was moving ahead with 30 points in the third frame when Pauk Sa took control and crafted a break of 70 points and then in next visit the balance points to cut the deficit. This put him in a commanding position and in the next game, he made an uninterrupted century break to level the match.

Ice Hockey World Championship: France And Austria Replace Russia And Belarus

France and Austria will replace Russia and Belarus at the men's ice hockey world championship in May, the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) announced. The IIHF suspended Russian and Belarusian teams on February 28 in response to the invasion of Ukraine. It announced the replacement teams after a council meeting on Friday. Ice hockey, along with judo, is one of the sports Russian president Vladimir Putin enjoys being seen playing.
