"I wish these scholarships were there in my time," says the first sportsperson from Motorsports to win the prestigious Arjuna Award three years back in 2019. He spoke to NDTV at a function where JK Tyre was celebrating its completion of four decades of motorsport journey in India. The company announced a new scholarship program of Rs 25 crore (approx.) or 300,000 euros. This initiative will select up to 5 young athletes, including a girl, and provide them with a chance to groom their career in motorsport on international platforms.

SAI Makes It Mandatory For NSFs To Tag Woman Coach With Female Athletes During Travel

Jolted by two harassment complaints by female athletes against their respective coaches, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) on Wednesday made it mandatory for National Sports Federations (NSFs) to include a woman coach in the contingents, if women are competing at home and abroad. In light of the recent events, SAI Director General Sandip Pradhan had on Monday interacted with the officials of more than 15 NSFs, which will field athletes in the upcoming Commonwealth Games, to discuss the new protocols.

Weightlifter Gurunaidu Sanapathi Becomes Youth World Champion

Gurunaidu Sanapathi has become India's first weightlifter to win a gold at the IWF Youth World Championships in Leon, Mexico. The 16-year-old claimed the yellow metal with a total effort of 230kg (104kg 126kg) in the boy's 55kg event late on Sunday night. While Sanapathi, the 2020 Asian Youth Weightlifitng Championships bronze medallist, stood on top of the podium, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Ali Majeed 229kg (105kg 124kg) came in second and Yerassyl Umrov of Kazakhstan 224kg (100kg 124kg) third.

Floyd Mayweather To Face MMA Fighter In Japan Exhibition

Newly enshrined Hall of Fame boxer Floyd Mayweather will fight Japanese mixed martial arts star Mikuru Asakura in a September exhibition in Japan, organisers said Tuesday. The former welterweight world champion, who was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame on Sunday after retiring with an unbeaten 50-0 record, beat "Dangerous" Don Moore in an exhibition in Abu Dhabi last month. The date, venue and rules of his fight against 29-year-old featherweight Asakura will be announced later this month.

Cyclist Files Police Case Against Coach In Harassment Case

The female cyclist, who had alleged sexual harassment by sacked national coach R K Sharma, on Saturday filed a police complaint against him even as the Sports Authority of India (SAI) said it will speak with the cycling contingent that travelled to Slovenia as part of its detailed investigation. While the female cyclist, who made the allegations had returned from Slovenia earlier this week, the rest of the contingent including five male cyclists and coach Sharma got back on Saturday morning.

"Feeling Depressed": Gymnast Alleges "Injustice" At CWG Selection Trials

India's most decorated male gymnast Ashish Kumar is sinking into depression as his hopes of making the Commonwealth Games squad continue to dwindle a month after alleging partiality in selection trials. Kumar, who won medals at the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games in 2010, wrote to the Gymnastic Federation of India and Sports Authority of India, alleging that he "faced injustice" at the selection trials for the upcoming Birmingham Commonwealth Games. The trials were held on May 11 and 12.
