The WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup’s WTCR 100 Club has six members following WTCR Race of Italy. Four drivers have started 100 WTCR races with two now on 101 starts.
From vintage battles between Fernando Alonso, Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton, to maiden wins for rookie drivers, Formula 1 has presented almost every possible scenario at the Hungarian Grand Prix down the years.
Nathanaël Berthon said joining team-mate Gilles Magnus on the Race 2 podium at WTCR Race of Italy was just what their Comtoyou Racing squad deserved. Berthon finished runner-up to his Audi-powered colleague at Autodromo Vallelunga Piero Taruffi after a damaged tyre cost him a seemingly certain podium in Race 1.
Rob Huff remains the driver to beat in the WTCR Trophy − and a contender for outright title honours − despite a tough WTCR Race of Italy weekend aboard his Zengő Motorsport CUPRA Leon Competición. With the Hungarian squad operating as a one-car entity while Dániel Nagy recovers from a hand injury, Briton Huff was not only disadvantaged by having no team-mate to work with, he was also hamstrung by a differential issue that turned his Autodromo Vallelunga Piero Taruffi visit into a “damage limitation weekend”, according to the 2012 FIA World Touring Car Championship winner.
Despite the hot conditions experienced by all at the fifth round of the FIA ETCR eTouring Car World Cup at the Autodromo Vallelunga Piero Taruffi the CUPRA EKS squad emerged from the weekend well, even if they did face a few curveballs early on. CUPRA arrived in Italy with a 202-point lead at the top of the manufacturers’ table – and left with a 247-point advantage – but the weekend could well have gone very differently as the squad which dominated so well in the early races faced stern challenges from the conditions and also rival squads Romeo Ferraris and Hyundai Motorsport N.
After taking its first Manufacturer and King of the Weekend crowns of the season at the fifth round of the FIA ETCR eTouring Car World Cup, Race IT, Hyundai Motorsport N is determined to continue its winning ways. Mikel Azcona was the man of the moment for the squad as he scored maximum points in every round at Vallelunga but there were strong performances from the other three Hyundai Motorsport N drivers as Nicky Catsburg and Jean-Karl Vernay secured a Hyundai Veloster N ETCR 1-2 in Pool Furious Quarter Final 2, with Norbert Michelisz taking victory in Pool Fast’s Quarter Final 2.
