Tokyo Olympics gold medallist Neeraj Chopra continued to shine as he bagged a gold medal at the Kuortane Games on Saturday after registering a throw of 86.69m in his first attempt. This was enough to outdo his rivals -- 2012 Olympic champ Keshorn Walcott and 2019 world champion Anderson Peters. The weather conditions in Finland for the event were less than ideal as the athletes had to deal with rain and wet conditions.
The Diamond’s League’s annual Meeting de Paris took place on Saturday night, which saw a handful of impressive performances on the track, including a world-leading time, and an African record achieved. Jamacian 100m world champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce kept fans waiting, but impressed as she equalled this season's world-leading time of 10.67 with a blistering run in the final sprint race of the day. Great Britain's Daryll Neita produced a season-best time to finish second behind the three-time Olympic gold medalist.
Serena Williams will team up with world No. 4 Ons Jabeur at the Rothesay International Eastbourne as she continues her Wimbledon preparation. The 28-time major champion will make her competitive return after almost a year out with an injury she sustained in the first round at Wimbledon last year.
The 24-year-old Chopra's opening throw of 86.69m turned out to be the winning distance. Trinidad and Tobago's 2012 Olympics champion Keshorn Walcott was second with a first round throw of 86.64m. Peters was third with a best throw of 84.75m, which also came in the opening round. Chopra's second and third attempts were fouls and he made only three throws. That meant Chopra had a single legal throw and he won the competition with it. His throw was not as big as the 89.30m effort while finishing second in the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland, in a star-studded field but the win will surely boost his confidence ahead of the Stockholm Diamond League on June 30.

Boulter had been in career-best form at the tournament, defeating Alison Riske in the first round of the Wimbledon warm-up before knocking out former top-10 player Caroline Garcia. But second seed Halep ultimately proved too strong in a 6-4, 6-1 victory.
BIRMINGHAM: Former Wimbledon champion Simona Halep booked her place in the semi-finals of the WTA Birmingham grass-court event with a straight sets win over Britain's Katie Boulter on Friday (Jun 17).
