Tripathi hasn't made his international debut yet, but he is one of the more talented batsmen around, who the selectors might be keeping an eye on for a potential T20I call-up in the future, like his state-mate from Maharashtra, Ruturaj Gaikwad, who made his T20I debut last year after good performances at the domestic and IPL levels. Like most Indian cricketers of this generation, Tripathi too is a big MS Dhoni fan. He shared the dressing room with Dhoni in his maiden IPL season with the Rising Pune Supergiant team (now defunct) in 2017. After RPS, the 31-year-old went on to play for the Rajasthan Royals (2018 and 2019) and then the Kolkata Knight Riders (2020 and 2021). Tripathi will now be plying his trade for the Sunrisers Hyderabad who bought the attacking batsman for a whopping Rs 8.50 crore in the last IPL player auction. Last year (in 2021), Tripathi, while playing for KKR, found himself in a pressure-cooker situation and the Maharashtra cricketer held his nerve to seal the deal for his team. In Qualifier 2, in Sharjah, Kolkata Knight Riders were 123/2 in 16 overs, chasing Delhi Capitals 135/5.

For the first time since its inception in 2008, the Indian Premier League's (IPL) league phase will see the teams divided into two virtual groups. The IPL Governing Council on Friday announced that IPL 2022 will begin from March 26 with the final slated on May 29. The 70 matches in the league phase will be hosted across four venues in Mumbai and Pune. Over the years, IPL's league stage has always been played in a home-away format, where each team plays the same opposition twice but in the 15th edition, there will be a change. The number of teams in IPL 2022 has been increased to 10 with the addition of two new franchises - Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants - but the number of matches per team remains 14.

Premier League will see a tweak in format as 10 teams will be divided into groups of five but the number of matches per side will remain 14. As per groupings released by BCCI on Friday, group A comprises Mumbai Indians, KKR, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Supergiants. The group B will have Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans.

As per a report in 'The Australian', Katich decided to walk out after a disagreement on how the team was being managed and he also felt that the franchise disregarded the pre-auction plans. Earlier, SunRisers Hyderabad was involved in a major controversy after they sacked David Warner as captain last season and then the batter was even ousted from the playing XI.

Jonty Rhodes takes up dual role of batting and fielding coach at Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings fielding coach Jonty Rhodes has taken up the additional role of batting coach following the departure of Wasim Jaffer. Rhodes is considered one of the best fielders of all time but also made more than 8000 runs for South Africa. The 52-year-old was also sitting alongside head coach Anil Kumble and co-owners at the IPL auction table last week.
