Virat Kohli captaincy era and still looking for their maiden IPL title, Royal Challengers Bangalore announced recently that South African Faf du Plessis will be their new captain. Despite having one of the biggest fan bases in cricket's biggest extravaganza, RCB has failed to deliver a single title in the last 14 years. But now, with an almost complete makeover of the team, the 2016 runners-up will be looking to set the stage on fire as they begin their IPL 2022 campaign against Punjab Kings, starting March 27.

If Royal Challengers Bangalore fans hoped for Virat Kohli to reconsider his decision to step down as skipper, they were left disappointed on Saturday. On expected lines, RCB announced Faf du Plessis as the captain for the upcoming IPL season.

Placed in Group B, RCB will be playing two games each against Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals (their counterparts from Group A) along with one game each against Mumbai Indians, Kokata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants in the league phase of the tournament.
