Williamson hoping to recover from elbow injury in time to play in IPL

Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson is hoping to be fit in time to play in this year's IPL as he spends time in rehabilitation after deciding against surgery for a long-standing elbow injury. Although no time-frame has been set for his return to competitive cricket, the 31-year-old batter is optimistic of recovering at some point during the white-ball series against the Netherlands in March-April, which could precede the IPL slated to start at the end of March. "Last (IPL) season was an example as well, where I wasn't involved initially and it was elbow-related as well. The franchise was great and supportive of it," Williamson was quoted as saying by 'ESPNcricinfo'.

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson, who also leads Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), is hopeful to recover from his elbow injury before the 15th edition of the tournament. In IPL 2021 (14th edition), Williamson played with an injured elbow after missing out on the first three matches of the Indian leg. He eventually got retained by the franchise for 14 crores, ahead of the mega auction. The Kiwi batter had to miss out on many matches during the T20 World Cup in the UAE and later on in the series against India, where he sat out in the second Test.

IPL player auction will be held over two days - February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru. The highest base price category is Rs 2 Crore. A total of 17 Indian cricketers with a base price of Rs 2 crore will go under the hammer this time. Rs 2 crore is the highest reserve price. As many as 48 players in all (17 Indian and 31 foreigners) have chosen to place themselves in this bracket in the final auction list which stands at 590 players. A total of 1214 players had earlier registered for the auction. The Indian cricket board released a list of 590 cricketers (370 Indian players and 220 overseas players) who will be up for grabs during the two-day mega auction. Amongst 590 players, 228 are capped players, 355 are uncapped players and 7 belong to Associate Nations.
