Pakistan cricket team is gearing up to face West Indies in a three-ODI series in Multan starting with the first match on Wednesday. Heat is going to play a major factor in the series as the temperature in the Pakistan city is expected to hover around 45 degree Celsius. The players are also aware of this. "It's a challenging scenario but now it has been decided and we are preparing for it. Definitely it is hot, but we are having a conditioning camp and acclimatising to the weather. We started our training camp earlier in the day from 2:30pm so that we could feel the heat and get ourselves ready for the matches," Babar Azam, Pakistan captain, said in a press conference recently.
Pakistan's ODI series against West Indies begins from Tuesday and ahead of the start of the three-match series, the players got together for a customary photo shoot. During the shot all top Pakistan stars posed in front of the camera including captain Babar Azam, pace sensation Shaheen Shah Afridi and star wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan. Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan had turned 30 on Wednesday. Earlier this year, Rizwan was named as the men's T20I Player of the Year and off late, he has enjoyed great success with the bat in hand in the shortest format of the game. Pakistan are now gearing up for a three-match ODI series against the West Indies, set to begin on June 8 in Multan. Ahead of the series, the entire Pakistan squad celebrated Rizwan's birthday.
Before turning up for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2022, Australia opener David Warner faced off against Pakistan in the three-match series and the Pat Cummins-led side emerged on the right side of the result after winning the third and final Test. Shaheen Shah Afridi has become Pakistan's premier pacer over the last couple of years, making his mark across all three formats for the national team as well as in the Pakistan Super League. His latest stint was in the County Championship, where he picked 14 wickets in three matches. Former England pacer Darren Gough earmarked the 22-year-old left-arm seamer as a future captain for his national team, citing his performances as the skipper for Lahore Qalandars. Afridi led the Qalandars to their maiden Pakistan Super League title earlier this year.
Pakistan Cricket Board will adopt a new policy for its centrally contracted players from July 1 with the new contracts being given out for two different formats instead of the existing one contract mechanism. An official in the board told PTI on Saturday that contracts will be given out for red ball and white ball formats. "Essentially players who represent and perform for the country in both formats will be given separate red ball and white ball contacts meaning they will earn two retainers instead of the existing one," he said.
