In the ongoing first Test match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium, the spinner pitched the ball outside leg stump to Mendis and made it turn from there to hit the off stump. The delivery from Yasir was similar to the "Ball of the Century" bowled by the late great Shane Warne, Australia's legendary leg-spinner, during the early 1990s.
Pakistan's Shaheen Shah Afridi led an inspired attack to bowl out Sri Lanka for 222 but the hosts hit back with two wickets before stumps on the opening day of the first Test on Saturday. The tourists reached 24 for two at the close of play in Galle after losing their openers Imam-ul-Haq and Abdullah Shafique. Azhar Ali, on three, and skipper Babar Azam, on one, were batting at close of play with Pakistan still trailing by 198 runs. Fast bowler Kasun Rajitha trapped Imam leg before wicket for two and Prabath Jayasuriya took down Shafique for 13 with his left-arm spin on a day dominated by the bowlers.
Sri Lanka's Dhananjaya de Silva will return to the team after recovering from Covid-19, skipper Dimuth Karunaratne said Friday ahead of the first Test against Pakistan. The two-match series starts Saturday in Galle, where the hosts first lost to and then hammered Australia in recent weeks. They will be bolstered by the return of de Silva, a batting all-rounder who was one of four players to get the virus before and during the second Test against Australia. De Silva replaces Kamindu Mendis, who made an impressive 61 on debut in the previous match.
