HYDERABAD, India : England picked three specialist spinners for the series opener against India but it was their handling of part-timer Joe Root that intrigued many after the second day's play on Friday.
Former England cricket team batter Kevin Pietersen was trolled heavily on social media by ex-India opener Wasim Jaffer after his prediction regarding England's batting on Day 1 of the first Test match against India on Thursday went horribly wrong. At the start of day's play, Pietersen took to social media to post that he believes England will declare their innings on 450/9. However, Ben Stokes was the only England batter to cross the 50-run mark as Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets each to bowl out the visitors for 246 in the third session. Jaffer was quick to react to Pietersen's prediction on X (formerly called Twitter) and his witty reply even had a reference to Dinesh Karthik.
India picked a total of three spinners for the ongoing first Test match against England at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad but Kuldeep Yadav still failed to make a cut into the team. On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel were the ones who were included for the game. At the toss, Rohit informed that the team management had to take call between Axar and Kuldeep Yadav but the former got preference due to his batting ability.

Yashasvi Jaiswal looked in fine form as he slammed a half-century and India were 119/1 after bowling out England for just 246. Jaiswal looked particularly comfortable against the England spin trio of Tom Hartley, Jack Leach and Rehan Ahmed as he scored a majority of his runs against them. Pietersen said that the spinners are his 'big concern' and he does not seem them 'outbowling' their Indian counterparts.
