NEW DELHI :India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith in the same over to reduce Australia to 94-3 at lunch on day one of the second test on Friday.
Early into the second Test between India and Australia in New Delhi, lost a little bit of control on the ball as he bowled a wayward delivery in the third over. It was only the first ball of the over, with David Warner facing the India pacer. The ball pitched outside the wide line but interestingly, the umpire called it a no-ball. The decision left a few baffled, but later, a clarification was issued by the commentators on-air, explaining why it wasn't called a wide delivery.
On a 'milestone occasion', Cheteshwar Pujara earned a much-deserved Guard of Honour from his India teammates as he walked onto the Arun Jaitley Stadium, wearing India's Test jersey for the 100th match. Skipper Rohit Sharma had a big smile on his face as the entire Indian team clapped for Pujara and honoured him on his historic occasion. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also shared a video of Pujara getting the Guard of Honour on social media.
India star Virat Kohli is on the brink of becoming only the sixth batter in the world to score 25,000 or more runs in international cricket. Coming out to bat at the Delhi's Arun Jaitley stadium, Kohli would be needing only 52 runs to achieve the feat. The other five batters who have crossed the mark before Kohli are Sachin Tendulkar (34357 runs), Kumar Sangakkara (28016 runs), Ricky Ponting (27483 runs) Mahela Jayawardene (25957 runs) and Jacques Kallis (25534 runs). It is worth noting that all five players have already called time on their international careers by now.
Australia couldn't hit the ground running in the opening Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test against India in Nagpur, losing the match by an innings and 132 runs. There were huge expectations from the likes of Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne and others but the star batters couldn't step up to the task and deliver. In fact, Smith had even faced the wrath of Australia legend Allan Border for his on-field gestures during the Nagpur Test. As Smith and Labuschagne gear up for the second Test in Delhi, former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad trolled them in epic fashion.
On eve of 100th Test, Cheteshwar Pujara reveals how playing white-ball domestic cricket for Sussex spurred his late-career revivalNEW DELHI: Exactly a year ago, Cheteshwar Pujara's chances of making it to his 100th Test seemed to have diminished drastically when the selectors decided to leave him out for the home series against Sri Lanka. He was at 95 Tests then. On Thursday morning, the eve of the second Test against Australia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Pujara turned up with a beaming smile after a light optional nets session. The pride of representing India in a Test match for the 100th time was unmistakable.Pujara understands he isn't the quintessential hitman like most modern-day batters. He is, instead, the calm in the chaos. "I am the same Cheteshwar as a person. If you speak to people who know me, I am the same person and I don't think you need to change if you are a good human being," he proudly said.Being dropped last year surely shook things up for Pujara. At 34, the wiggle room was very little. He decided to skip IPL auctions, no doubt because he has gone unsold for most of the last six-seven auctions. The deal to play with Sussex in the English county championship came his way. But he needed a clear plan before that stint began.
India vs Australia, 2nd Test Day 1, Live Updates: India will still start as overwhelming favourites when they take on Australia in the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Delhi on Friday. The match will be one of Indian cricket's understated warrior Cheteshwar Pujara's 100th Test, a feat achieved after 13 years of sweat and toil.
Virat Kohli has regained his golden touch and is back among runs. After a couple of years, where the former India captain went through a phase where he could not score centuries, Kohli has shown enough glimpses of being in form. Though he could not leave a big impact in the first Test against Australia, he will be expected to excel in the second Test in Delhi. Being his home-ground, the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi is very close to Kohli's heart. It's the same for Shikhar Dhawan, Kohli's long-time teammate in the Indian cricket team and the Delhi state team.
