Norwegian skier Lucas Braathen fought back tears after wrapping up the men's slalom season title Sunday, finishing runner-up in the last race at the World Cup Finals.
Ramon Zenhausern claimed slalom victory in Soldeu as Lucas Braathen secured the crystal globe in the discipline for the season. Braathen's final run left Zenhausern no chance of overtaking the Norwegian in the overall stakes, but the Swiss took the win, which gave him third in the year-end standings.
Mikaela Shiffrin won her 21st career giant slalom at the World Cup Finals Sunday as the American standout ended the season with yet another record.
Mikaela Shiffrin signed off her historic season in style by winning the giant slalom at Soldeu to land a record-extending 88th World Cup win. The American great held a 0.62s lead after the first run in Andorra and she needed almost all of that on the second to squeak victory by 0.06s ahead of Norway’s Thea Louise Stjernesund, chasing her first ever World Cup win. Canada's Valerie Grenier was third.
