Leeds winning the race to sign PSV ace Cody Gakpo would be a “huge coup” for the Elland Road side, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke. Jesse Marsch’s transfer window is beginning to take shape following a flurry of recent arrivals and the American manager is hoping to make Gakpo his latest addition.
According to Dutch journalist Marco Timmer, Leeds are keen on signing the Netherlands international this window, although they face stiff competition from several of their Premier League rivals.
The report states that Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City have all spoken with Gakpo’s team, with Leicester the latest top-flight side to join the race for the 23-year-old’s services.
Gakpo, whose impressive form in Holland last season has caught the attention of English football, would cost Leeds £34m, which would require them to break the club record £26m they paid for Rodrigo two years ago.
