Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Bruno Lage would be ‘shocked’ if he were to lose midfielder Matheus Nunes in any imminent transfer window, having only brought the 23-year-old to Molineux in the summer, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke. Nunes was part of a recruitment spree that saw Wolves splash more than £120 million as they looked to fight their way up the Premier League table.
Wolves completed the signing of the eight-cap Portugal international in August, with the midfielder penning a five-year deal after a club-record £42 million fee was agreed with Sporting Lisbon.
Liverpool were also strongly linked with Nunes throughout the summer but it was the West Midlands side who won the race. After his arrival, Nunes insisted that he wanted to join Wolves for a ‘long time’ and said he was ‘very excited’ about the deal getting done.
Club chairman Jeff Shi described Lage’s new recruit as ‘another exciting young talent’ and one of the brightest prospects in world football.
