Will India Host Women's T20 World Cup 2024 In Place Of Bangladesh? Jay Shah's Response

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah said that India turned down the request from Bangladesh Cricket Board to host the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 in October.

The political unrest has resulted in question marks over whether the country will be able to host the World Cup this year. Earlier, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said that they will be monitoring the situation in Bangladesh before deciding whether the tournament will be shifted.

In a recent interview, Jay Shah said that India will be hosting the 2025 Women's ODI World Cup and BCCI does not want to give "any signal" that the country wants to host consecutive World Cups. "Next year, we'll host the 50-overs women's World Cup.

We do not want to give any signal that we want to host consecutive World Cups," Jay Shah told Times Of India. Jay Shah also said that the BCCI is not in favour of hosting pink-ball Tests.

For Shah, the first thing on the agenda would be next year's Champions Trophy, which as of now, is slated to be held in Pakistan. As the Champions Trophy's fate hangs in the balance, former Pakistan captain Younis Khan has urged Shah to uphold sportsman spirit, suggesting that the new ICC chairman should help in getting the Indian cricket team travel clearance for the Champions Trophy.

Shah has been serving as the BCCI secretary since October 2019 and chairman of the Asian Cricket Council since January 2021. Jay Shah got the vote of 15 out of 16 members in the ICC Board to be elected the next ICC chairman.

After the election, Shah, who was the sole nominee for the chairmanship, emphasised his commitment to expanding the global reach and popularity of cricket, especially with its upcoming inclusion in the LA 2028 Olympics.
