Erik ten Hag is confident that Wout Weghorst can play an important role for Manchester United after naming him in the starting line up for the Carabao Cup final.

Ten Hag is looking to win his first trophy as United manager when his side faces Newcastle at Wembley on Sunday afternoon, and has named his team for the match.

Marcus Rashford reclaims his place after limping off during United's midweek win against Barcelona in the Europa League, while Antony is also rewarded with a start following his winner last time out.

Speaking ahead of the match from Wembley, Ten Hag explained his team selection and why he was putting his faith in Weghorst despite only scoring one goal since arriving at the club. "But most important is the threat behind their midfield in possession and the second thing is that he has an important job to do in defending because they have an important player in that area." United XI: De Gea, Dalot, Varane, Martinez, Shaw, Fred, Casemiro, Fernandes, Antony, Rashford, Weghorst. Subs: Heaton, Lindelof, Maguire, Malacia, Sabitzer, Sancho, Wan-Bissaka, McTominay, Garnacho.
