Was lack of practice matches the reason behind Team India's loss in the first Test against South Africa? India captain Rohit Sharma doesn't think playing First Class practice Tests would have given the team any benefit because of the 'contrasting difference' in the two situations.

After India lost the opening Test to South Africa by an innings and 32 runs, Rohit was asked in the press conference about the team's decision to snub practice matches over intra-squad contests.

Rohit highlighted the nature of wickets and the opponent team's players in the practice matches as the reason behind the team's decision to play intra-squad matches instead.

The India skipper claimed that the wickets the team gets in practice matches don't produce the sort of bounce and pace the actual match pitches do. "We have been playing practice matches in the last 4-5 years.

Indian cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma was livid over a 'controversial run' involving Mohammad Nabi and Rahmanullah Gurbaz during the third T20I encounter against Afghanistan in Bengaluru on Wednesday. On the final ball of the first Super Over, Nabi missed a yorker from Mukesh Kumar and as they went for the single, a throw from Sanju Samson from behind the stumps hit the batter and went towards long-on. The batters ended up completing two more runs and take their score to 16. Rohit was not happy at all with the batters taking advantage of the situation and although he ended up having an interaction with Nabi over the run, the extra two runs were deemed legit by the on-field umpires.
With the series against Afghanistan in bag, India skipper Rohit Sharma on Sunday said he is happy that the players are actually walking the talk as the team ticks all the boxes ahead of the T20 World Cup. India beat Afghanistan by six wickets in the second T20I to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-game series, which is the last before the T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies. "We have been clear with what we wanted to do, very clear message to everyone and when you see a performance like that, you can be really proud," Rohit said during the post-match presentation.
India captain Rohit Sharma on Sunday added another gem to his shining crown as he became the first men's player to play 150 T20Is. Rohit achieved this feat during the second T20I match against Afghanistan at the Holkar Cricket Stadium. Rohit returned to India's T20I setup for the first time since the end of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022. He led his side to a 6-wicket victory over Afghanistan in the first T20I in Mohali.
Former India batter Suresh Raina believes that the first-choice wicketkeeper-batter for Rohit Sharma would be Rishabh Pant. The 26-year-old southpaw is not a part of India's ongoing three-match T20I series against Afghanistan but he is gearing up for a comeback to competitive cricket. Pant, who has started training after recovering from a car accident he met with in December 2022, is expected to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. With the Afghanistan series being India's last T20I assignment before the T20 World Cup, the performance of players in IPL is definitely going to have a say in the selection of the squad for the world event.
India skipper Rohit Sharma is all set to register a big T20I record. The star batter is only one game away from becoming the first player in international cricket to feature in 150 T20Is. Rohit has been picked as captain for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan which will also see him return to the format after a gap of 14 months. It is worth noting that India veterans Rohit and Virat Kohli both had been out of the T20I team ever since the side's exit in the T20 World Cup semi-final in November.
Former Indian cricket team wicket-keeper Saba Karim believes that Virat Kohli should not open the batting with Rohit Sharma in the ongoing T20I series against Afghanistan. India defeated Afghanistan in the first T20I encounter in Mohali on Thursday but Kohli did not play the game due to 'personal reasons'. However, the star batter will be back for the second game and there were rumours that he can become Rohit's opening partner. Saba said that India will need Kohli to play a crucial role at No. 3 in the T20 World Cup and considering the pitches in West Indies, Kohli should stick to his familiar role.
