Indian cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma was livid over a 'controversial run' involving Mohammad Nabi and Rahmanullah Gurbaz during the third T20I encounter against Afghanistan in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

On the final ball of the first Super Over, Nabi missed a yorker from Mukesh Kumar and as they went for the single, a throw from Sanju Samson from behind the stumps hit the batter and went towards long-on.

The batters ended up completing two more runs and take their score to 16. Rohit was not happy at all with the batters taking advantage of the situation and although he ended up having an interaction with Nabi over the run, the extra two runs were deemed legit by the on-field umpires.

Former Indian cricket team opener Aakash Chopra weighed in on the incident. “A bye was taken off the last ball. Sanju Samson threw the ball, it hit Nabi's leg and they ran two extra runs.

India dominated major parts of the Test match but a brilliant knock from Ollie Pope and a seven-wicket haul from Tom Hartley clinched the game for the visitors. The Hyderabad Test loss should serve as wake-up call for India that England's 'Bazball' strategy is effective on slow tracks as well, according to former captain Nasser Hussain. Since embracing Bazball, England are yet to lose a Test series and they fashioned a memorable 28-run win on the back of Ollie Pope's monumental 196 and debutant left-arm spinner Tom Hartley's seven-wicket haul after conceding a massive 190-run first innings lead in the opening Test against India. "India will probably rue their first innings. They got 436 but actually they could have got a lot more if not for some sloppy dismissals. They will come back. They are a very fine side and history tells you it will be tough for England," Hussain wrote in his column for 'Sky Sports'.
Veteran Indian cricket team wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik was not pleased with Rohit Sharma's 'defensive' approach on Day 4 of the first Test match against England on Sunday. Resuming at 316/6, Ollie Pope ended up scoring 196 as India were given a target of 231. Karthik said that India were very defensive in their approach from the start of the day and although it was understandable to be conservative in their tactics against Pope, he pointed out that against tail-enders like Tom Hartley, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja should have had attacking fielders to create pressure.

Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma marked their T20I return in the 3-match series against Afghanistan, making a case for themselves for T20 World Cup 2024 squad selection. While Rohit redeemed himself in the 3rd T20I with a century, after incurring back-to-back ducks in the first two matches, Virat scored a solitary 16-ball 29 in the 2nd match before departing for a duck in the third. Though Kohli's runs with the bat might not have impressed many, his 'intent' certainly left a mark on the skipper Rohit.
