Formula 1 returns to Silverstone for the 10th round of the 2022 championship. The racetrack in Great Britain has been a mainstay on the F1 calendar, with the championship's inaugural race taking place there on 13 May 1950.Silverstone was originally built as an airfield in 1942, but in 1947, the first motorsport race took place there.

And three years later, the first F1 race, which Giuseppe Farina won in an Alfa Romeo 158.Over the years, the circuit underwent many changes, with the latest coming in 2011.

Back then, the start/finish straight and the pit building was moved to between Club and Abbey corners, away from Woodcote and Copse.In 2020, history was rewritten when the circuit renamed the start/finish straight after Lewis Hamilton, the first time any part of the track has been named after someone.

The Hamilton Straight is situated between Turns 18 and 1 (Club and Abbey).David Coulthard, president of the British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC), owners of Silverstone, said at the event in 2020: "It is the first time in Silverstone's history that a part of the circuit has been named after any individual.
