Shubman Gill finally ended a long wait for his first international ton when he reached the triple figure mark off just 82 balls against Zimbabwe in the third ODI in Harare on Monday.

The talented opener, who will turn 23 next week, had scored seven 50-plus scores in the 11 Tests and eight ODIs since making his international debut in January, 2019.

However, despite reaching the 90s on a couple of occasions the century eluded Gill. But, on Monday, Gill ensured that he gets to raise his bat for the first international ton.

Throughout the innings, Gill showed control as he mostly relied on fours to pace his innings well. He hit only one six and yet took less that 85 balls to reach the century.

India batter Shubman Gill caught everyone's attention with a half-century in his County Championship debut match for Glamorgan against Worcestershire in Sophia Gardens, Cardiff on Wednesday. Gill brought up his fifty in 87 balls and gave his side a strong start. But unfortunately, the batter had a disappointing end as he was dismissed at 92. In the 67th over, which was bowled by Ed Barnard, Gill was LBW out and shown the way to the pavilion. His dismissal came as a big shock for all the viewers, as everyone was eagerly waiting for a ton.

Shubman Gill earned a recall to the Indian ODI side this year, and has taken his opportunities with both hands, winning the Player of the Series award against both West Indies and Zimbabwe. In the six matches he has played against the Windies and Zimbabwe, Gill scored three half-centuries and a century. He could have had another ton as well, but rain played spoilsport and left him stranded on 98 in the 3rd ODI against West Indies. Former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris said the 22-year-old has "a huge future in front of him" and that he is putting pressure on veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan, with the World Cup set to be played in India next year.

Talented Shubman Gill will be representing Glamorgan for the remainder of the English county season joining a host of Indian players led by Cheteshwar Pujara, who has been plying his trade in the United Kingdom. Gill, who has had two back-to-back Player of the Series awards in ODIs against the West Indies and Zimbabwe, has so far played 11 Tests and nine ODIs for India. He has been in tremendous form of late with one hundred and three fifties in his last six 50-over games. He is also an integral part of the Indian Test squad.

Gill on Monday slammed 130 off 97 balls with the help of 15 boundaries and one six to steer India to a 13-run win and a 3-0 series sweep against Zimbabwe. His innings earned him accolades from several former players, including Yuvraj, who had taken to twitter to lavish praise on him.
