India were being led by Hardik Pandya in the match with Rohit Sharma missing the game due to a personal commitment. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) brought about a change in the squad for the Afghanistan T20I series, with skipper Babar Azam being rested. The decision prompted the board to assign the captaincy to Shadab Khan for the series. Talismanic India batter Virat Kohli finally got the Test hundred monkey off his back, scoring a triple-digit score for India in the first innings of the Ahmedabad Test. Though the gamed ended in a draw, Kohli's impressive 186-run knock gave the Indian team and its fans a sense of fulfilment. After the conclusion of the match, Kohli came up with a brilliant gesture for Australian batter Usman Khawaja, who also scored a century in the match, as well as wicket-keeper batter Alex Carey.
Following his side's series loss to India, Australia skipper Steve Smith said that the wicket was too flat at Ahmedabad to force a result and his side started playing better cricket as the series went on. Half-centuries from Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne helped Australia draw the fourth and final Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday. "Did end slowly. Was a pretty flat at the back end. The boys had a great time. The hospitality has been amazing. The crowd has been amazing. We started to play better as the series went on. The madness in one hour in Delhi cost us that game. The wicket here was too flat for us to force a result. The spinners bowled really well. Murphy and Kuhnemann bowled with composure. Lyon bowled his best in the first innings here, the best I have seen him bowl. I am getting a bit old (on asked if he will be touring India in four years time)," said Smith in a post-match presentation.
It has been a brilliant outing for Virat Kohli in the fourth Test match between India and Australia in Ahmedabad as the star batsman scored his first Test century in almost three years. Kohli dealt with the Australia bowlers with ease and his 182-run knock was able to hand India a decent lead in the first innings. The ex-India skipper was in a mood for banter on Monday and he was caught on the stump mic taking a slight jibe at on-field umpire Nitin Menon. Following a decision that went against India with respect to Aussie batsman Travis Head, Kohli decided to taunt Menon about it and said that if the decision was in any way related to him, the umpire would have given the decision against him.
