India captain Rohit Sharma was a frustrated figure after England tried to claim a grassed catch of Yashasvi Jaiswal on Day 2 of the fourth Test in Ranchi. The incident happened on 20th over of India's innings after England were bowled out for 353 in the morning session. Jaiswal seemed to have edged Ollie Robinson's delivery behind to the keeper Ben Foakes. The on-field umpires, however, weren't too sure about the catch being taken cleanly and referred the decision to the third umpire.
The Indian cricket team got a rude shock on the second day of the fourth Test against England in Ranchi on Saturday. Their famed batting line-up was no match for England's bowling. After the visitors put up a 353, courtesy Joe Root's unbeaten 122, much was expected from the Indian batters. However, barring Yashasvi Jaiswal's 73 off 117 balls, none of the the batters including Rohit Sharma could score big. It raised a lot of question on the reason behind India's debacle.
Former India cricketers RP Singh and Aakash Chopra opened up on captain Rohit Sharma's tactics during Day 1 of the ongoing 4th Test against England in Ranchi. RP Singh and Chopra felt that Rohit underbowled left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav on the opening day. Kuldeep bowled just 10 overs on Day 1, and had to wait until the 42nd over to get his chance. Despite failing to bag a wicket, Kuldeep was India's second most economical bowler at the JSCA Stadium after Ravindra Jadeja.
Debutant speedster Akash Deep revealed that India's star pacer gave him advise to keep the length of his delivery "slightly back", which helped him to script a dream debut in the fourth Test against England. Akash ran riot in the opening session of Day 1 by removing England's top order to put India in a strong position early in the game. The 27-year-old's ability to pick the right line and length played a major role in dismissing England's star batting trio of Zak Crawley (42), Ben Duckett (11) and Ollie Pope (0). "Bumrah Bhai advised me to drag the length back slightly (in international cricket), that's exactly what I did," Akash said after the end of Day 1.
With a 2-1 lead in hand, India will take on England in the fourth Test in Ranchi, hoping to clinch the five-match series. However, the hosts, who have already missed key players in three matches so far, will be without the services of Jasprit Bumrah, who was released from the squad ahead of the game, starting Friday, February 23. The decision to rest Bumrah "was taken keeping in mind the duration of the series and amount of cricket he has played in recent times." Mukesh Kumar, who was released from the squad for the 3rd Test, has been added back to the team as a cover for Bumrah.
