Former India cricketers RP Singh and Aakash Chopra opened up on captain Rohit Sharma's tactics during Day 1 of the ongoing 4th Test against England in Ranchi.

RP Singh and Chopra felt that Rohit underbowled left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav on the opening day. Kuldeep bowled just 10 overs on Day 1, and had to wait until the 42nd over to get his chance.

Despite failing to bag a wicket, Kuldeep was India's second most economical bowler at the JSCA Stadium after Ravindra Jadeja.

While RP Singh and Chopra weren't critical of Rohit for his tactics, they felt that the Indian skipper relied too much on veteran spinner Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin. "The bowlers put in a lot of effort.

India's 5-match Test series against England gave the team management the opportunity to try some of the next-generation stars. The likes of Sarfaraz Khan, Devdutt Padikkal, Rajat Patidar, Akash Deep, and Dhruv Jurel, all made their debuts in the series, and produced performances worthy of cementing their places in the squad, to say the least. But, it has now been learned that some of these debuts didn't come from the head coach Rahul Dravid, or skipper Rohit Sharma. Instead, it was the chief selector Ajit Agarkar who pushed the team management into selecting some of these players.
Former England cricketer Nasser Hussain on Tuesday said that sometimes people confuse the India skipper Rohit Sharma as a "laidback" player. The 36-year-old had a stupendous series against England, he scored 400 runs after playing all five matches at a strike rate of 64.21. The India skipper also slammed 2 centuries against the travelling side. While speaking to Sky Sports, Nasser said that Rohit has a lot of "skill, and brilliance" with his batting. Talking about the recently concluded five-match Test series between India and England, the 55-year-old said that Rohit had a great series as a skipper.
India captain Rohit Sharma was full of praise for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after the 'Test Cricket Incentive Scheme' announcement by the board's secretary Jay Shah. The Board president Roger Binny and Shah said that the initiative recognizes and rewards the efforts of players, promoting Test cricket as "pinnacle of the sport". The initiative comes as a welcome move by the cricketing fraternity, especially in the wake of the controversy surrounding certain players' decision to skip red-ball cricket.
Living up to its promise of giving highest priority to Test cricket, the BCCI has decided to give an incentive of Rs 45 lakh per game to all those who would play 75 per cent or more of the scheduled red-ball games in a particular season, Board secretary Jay Shah said on Saturday. A Test player, who appears in a possible 10 Tests in a season will be richer by a whopping Rs 4.50 crore as incentive apart from a possible Rs 1.5 crore (15 lakh per game) in usual match fee.
Rohit Sharma's captaincy was rather understated vis-a-vis Ben Stokes' on-the-edge methods, but India head coach Rahul Dravid was delighted to see the players identify themselves with the Mumbaikar's leadership principles. Under Rohit, India never made tall claims even once but silently and categorically nullified the visitors' much-talked-about 'Bazball' and grabbed the five-match series 4-1. "I'm privileged to work with a lovely team. I'm learning from them all the time. Rohit has been fantastic to work with. I think he's a terrific leader, and the guys gravitate towards him phenomenally, which is fantastic to see," said Dravid told broadcasters after the match.
India blew England away inside three days in the fifth and final Test, winning by an innings and 64 runs at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on Saturday. The hosts were bowled out for 477 early on Day 3, but the damage had already been done.
