It was a good outing for Virat Kohli on Day 3 of the fourth Test match between India and Australia in Ahmedabad as the star batsman scored his first Test half-century in almost 14 months.

The last time Kohli scored a fifty in the longest format of the game was back in January 2022 against South Africa. In the process, Kohli also became the fifth Indian cricketer to score 4000 runs at home after Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag.

He was the third-fastest to reach the milestone after Sehwag and Tendulkar but became the one with the best average (58.82).

Shubman Gill gave ample display of his immense talent with a stylish hundred but India's batting unit didn't fully press home the advantage, ending the third day at 289 for three against Australia.

Virat Kohli was in sublime form in the third ODI against Australia in Chennai on Wednesday until he fell to a tame shot. The former Indian cricket team captain played with responsibility in a 270-run chase and scored 54 in 72 balls. It was not a typical fluent innings from Kohli but a gritty one. With boundaries hard to come by, Kohli relied on running between the wickets before latching on to the loose deliveries to script a fighting knock.
Team India suffered a forgetful 10-wicket defeat against Australia in the second ODI on Sunday in Visakhapatnam. Asked to bat first, the likes of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and others miserably failed to leave a mark as the hosts were bundled out for 117. Mitchell Starc was the pick among the bowlers as the pacer achieved his ninth five-wicket haul. Later, the visitors made a mockery of the target with the openers Travis Head (51*) and Mitchell Marsh (66*) remaining unbeaten, taking their side across the line in just 11 overs.
Team India kick-started the three-match ODI series with a brilliant five-wicket win in the first match on Friday. Opted to bowl first, the hosts restricted Australia at 188 after Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami scalped three wickets each. Later, Team India suffered an early loss of wickets as they were five down with only 83 runs on the board. It was then KL Rahul, who stood up and played an unbeaten knock of 75 runs off 91 balls and took the Hardik Pandya-led side across the line, in just 39.5 overs. Rahul's magnificent knock left everyone utterly impressed as the batter was earlier going through a lean patch and had lost his place in the team, after back-to-back failures.
Virat Kohli on Sunday once again became a victim of LBW dismissal. The batter was dismissed for 31 runs on the bowling of Nathan Ellis as he missed his flick down the leg side in the second ODI against Australia in Visakhapatnam. His mode of dismissal was similar to that in the first ODI in which a Mitchell Starc delivery hit him on the pad and he had to depart for four runs. Former India captain and batter Sunil Gavaskar was unhappy over the fact that Kohli made the same mistake of playing across the line in the second ODI as well.
There have been multiple big knocks in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL) but nothing can be as explosive as Chris Gayle's 175 against Pune Warriors in 2013. While a number of cricketers have come close to breaking the record, no has achieved it yet but The Universal Boss believes there is one Indian cricketer who can end up establishing a new feat in the tournament. In a recent interaction, Gayle backed Lucknow Super Giants skipper KL Rahul to beat his record and even lauded the India batsman for his aggressive brand of cricket which has made him famous among the fans.
Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya's leadership skills and India's overall World Cup preparedness will be under focus when the home side begin their three-match ODI series against Australia in Mumbai on Friday. Pandya will captain the Indian team in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma, who is unavailable for the first ODI at the Wankhede Stadium due to family commitments. The day-night match will be Pandya's first as captain in an ODI, though he is the the regular India skipper in the T20 format. He is also the designated vice-captain for the ODI series.
