Vinesh Phogat's Plea Against Olympic Disqualification Accepted By CAS, Verdict Today

Wrestler Vinesh Phogat's heartbreaking exit from the Paris Olympics 2024 made the entire India emotional. Vinesh, who had entered the women's 50kg freestyle wrestling final, was disqualified from the event for being 100 grams overweight.

A day after her disqualification, Vinesh bid adieu to her international wrestling career, saying that she didn't have the strength to continue anymore.

Amid this chaos, the Indian grappler also filed an appeal in the Court of Arbitration for Sport, challenging her disqualification from the medal event.

A new development has now come to light that Vinesh's appeal has been accepted by the CAS and the court's hearing will be taking place today.

After the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) dismissed Vinesh Phogat's appeal for the silver medal in the women's 50kg event at the Paris Olympics, the Indian wrestler's uncle Mahavir Phogat said that we will welcome her like a Gold Medalist when she returns to India on August 17. On Wednesday, CAS released a statement to confirm that, "The application field by Vinesh Phogat on August 7 has been dismissed." Speaking to ANI, Mahavir said that there's no scope of anything after the verdict of the CAS came out. He added that everyone will treat Vinesh like a gold medalist when she returns to India on August 17.

Vinesh was disqualified from the 50kg freestyle wrestling gold medal match for being overweight. The wrestler filed an appeal in front of CAS for a joint-silver medal in the category but her request was denied. "The application filed by Vinesh Phogat on 7 August 2024 is dismissed," the CAS said in its initial order. 2020 Tokyo Olympics bronze medal-winning wrestler Bajrang Punia took to social media to react to CAS' verdict on Vinesh.

The Indian star wrestler had appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) after she was disqualified from the Paris Olympics 2024 women's 50kg wrestling final as she was 100 grams overweight. However, the verdict date for the case has been deferred a couple of times now.
