Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula were left fuming as a controversial end to their latest doubles match resulted in their exit from the US Open.
The American duo accused umpire Christian Rask of “stealing points” from them during their first round clash against Leylah Fernandez and Daria Saville.
Pegula berated Rask after he called a let during the deciding set, which the opposing team went on to win. At 7-5, Gauff was in the middle of hitting a shot that would have been a point for the the Canadian Open champions, but Saville called for a let as a piece of debris — which looked to be a piece of paper — flew onto the court.
Rask gave the let and the point was chalked off, which naturally left both Gauff and Pegula visibly upset. “It’s not fair, you’re taking points away from us for the second time,” an emotional Gauff stressed. “You’re stealing points from us.” "You're stealing points!"
