Medway Rugby Club have named the successor to long-serving coach Taff Gwilliam as their new head coach. Ricky Reeves, head coach of the United Kingdom Armed Forces 2023, will replace Gwilliam who stood down in January from his role with the Regional 1 South East outfit after more than 30 years serving Medway RFC.

Reeves is a highly experienced rugby professional with a playing and coaching career spanning more than 25 seasons at both professional and amateur status.

While at Wasps, he was part of the European Cup-winning squad in 2014. “I’m incredibly excited about this opportunity with Medway Rugby Football Club,” he said after Tuesday’s appointment. “I have a great passion for growing and developing teams, so I am looking forward to getting to know everyone and seeing how I can best help. “In my years as a player and coach, I’ve learnt a lot - both on and off the field - so I’m thrilled to be able to share this knowledge and help the team to achieve the success I know they’re capable of.” Club chair Tracy Bullock added: “With Ricky on board, we can focus on preparations for the new season. “It’s a new and exciting era for Medway Rugby Club and we’re looking forward to the new dynamic Ricky will bring to the team.” “This is an exciting time for Medway Rugby Club to start a new chapter with a coach as experienced as Ricky,” said first-team captain Tom Beaumont. “Ricky has a great foundation to work from, following incredible work and dedication from previous coaches and club management.” Reeves is also a serving member of the British Army, allowing him to bring discipline, respect and commitment to his coaching style.
