Tottenham Hotspur are unlikely to lose midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to Real Madrid this summer, despite Carlo Ancelotti being a fan of the player, according to Tom Barclay of The Sun. Antonio Conte has overseen a busy few months of business at Hotspur Way and will not want to lose any of his star men ahead of the September 1 deadline.

The £100,000 per-week midfielder has been targeted by the La Liga giants as a potential replacement for Casemiro, after the Brazilian joined Manchester United earlier this month, according to The Telegraph.

Ancelotti is an admirer of the Denmark international and tried to take him to Everton during his time as Toffees’ manager, the report states, before Tottenham won the race.

Hojbjerg joined Spurs from Southampton in the summer of 2020 for £15 million, penning a five-year deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, of which he still has three remaining.

Antonio Conte's Tottenham are "clear favourites" in this week's Champions League Group D match, Sporting coach Ruben Amorim said on Monday on the eve of their game in Portugal. They are a team that have one of the best attacks in the world with a winning coach in Italy and England and world-class players," said Amorim. "They are strong in transitions, have a lot of quality on set pieces. We will have to be wary because they will punish us for the slightest mistake."
