Maya Angelou once said, "My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humour, and some style." There are people for whom this applies in the sports world after a stunning victory by Toronto's professional women's hockey team — the Six.

The championship game of the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) brought the quote back to me and I kept thinking about Bernice Carnegie.

The first time I met Bernice Carnegie, I was very taken. It was at a Carnegie Initiative symposium. Yes, named after her father, Hockey Hall of Famer Herb Carnegie.
