Tony Asghar has stepped down as Sporting Director of Dundee United. He leaves his role at the Tannadice club just days after Liam Fox was sacked as manager following a 4-0 thumping by Ross County in Dingwall at the weekend.

United fans had been calling for Asghar's head after a number of failed appointments following the sacking of Jack Ross and now Liam Fox as manager.

In a statement released by the Tayside club tonight it revealed the board and Chief Executive Luigi Capuano will lead the process appointing a new manager.

Former boss Craig Levein has been tipped to take over in the dugout ahead of the New Firm derby clash against Aberdeen at Tannadice on Saturday evening.
