Hosts India have their priorities defined after the International Cricket Council announced the schedule for the ODI World Cup 2023 on Tuesday in Mumbai.

The tournament will begin with the England vs New Zealand clash on October 05 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad but the Indian team will begin its campaign against Australia in Chennai while the big Paksitan encounter has been scheduled to take place on the 15th of October in Ahmedabad where the hosts would look to continue their unbeaten record against the men from across the border.

India and Pakistan have faced each other seven times previously when it comes to ODI World Cups - in 1992, 1996, 1999, 2003, 2011, 2015 and 2019.

In the 50-over format, Pakistan are yet to beat India in World Cup matches. Only twice did the two arch-rivals not meet each other -- in 1992 and 2007.

The Indian cricket team has certainly improved its fitness standards over the years. In fact, the Yo-Yo test is often conducted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to guage the fitness of players in contention for selection. While on paper, the current crop of players might be the fittest of all in Indiain cricket history, legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar isn't able to understand how such 'fit' players face recurrent workload issues in the age of T20 cricket.
Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, who turned 51 on Saturday, has explained why Team India struggle to win knockout matches of major events. India have not won a major ICC trophy since 2013 when the MS Dhoni-led side had won the Champions Trophy in England. Since then, the team has lost four finals, and have bowed out in the semi-final on as many occasions. In an interview, Ganguly said that the reason behind India's failures is due to lack of "execution" rather than "mental pressure".
The ICC World Cup 2023 is all set to kickstart on October 5 and Team India under the leadership of Rohit Sharma and guidance of head coach Rahul Dravid will kick off their campaign against five-time champions Australia in Chennai. It has been 10 years since India's ICC title drought and the last time they won a World Cup was in 2011 under Mahendra Singh Dhoni's leadership. Former India captain and former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly believes that Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid can turn things around for India and end the ICC title drought.
