Team India head coach Rahul Dravid has tested positive for COVID-19, the Indian cricket board confirmed on Tuesday. "Team India Head Coach Rahul Dravid has tested positive for COVID-19 in a routine test conducted ahead of the team's departure to the UAE for Asia Cup 2022.

Dravid is under the supervision of the BCCI Medical team and has mild symptoms. He will join the team once he returns with a negative COVID-19 report.

The rest of the team will assemble in UAE on 23rd August, 2022," BCCI stated in an official release. Team India will be playing their first match of the tournament on August 28 against arch-rivals Pakistan.

It is important to note that Dravid had not travelled with the team to Zimbabwe for the three-match ODI series, that concluded on Monday.

Ahead of the T20 World Cup in Australia, which starts in mid-October, the Indian cricket team got a wake-up call in the Asia Cup. The Rahul Dravid-coached side could not enter the final after losses to Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super 4. When Dravid was appointed the Indian cricket team head coach in 2021, expectations were really high from the batting great. Now, the former Indian cricket team captain faces an acid Test going into the T20 World Cup. Former BCCI selector Saba Karim says that this is a 'crunch time' for Dravid.
Poor Asia Cup show could signal end to India's trial-and-error approach leading up to the Twenty20 World CupDUBAI: Four years ago, when he stood in for regular captain Virat Kohli in the 50-over Asia Cup here in the UAE, Rohit Sharma had claimed that the constant chopping and changing in the middle order was not going to help India's cause in the lead-up to the 2019 World Cup. It's ironic that now, when he is the regular all-format captain and the T20 World Cup is just under two months away, the team management seems reluctant to settle down on a combination. The constant shuffling of players has hurt India, especially in this Asia Cup. 'Rotation', 'rest' and 'resource pool' have been the buzzwords in this Indian team over the last eight months. One may argue India lost Ravindra Jadeja to injury and were missing Jasprit Bumrah in the game against Sri Lanka on Tuesday night. The fact remains, however, that the team has played musical chairs with the middle order and the bowling attack.
Young pacer Arshdeep Singh showed great resolve on Tuesday as he gave it his all in trying to defend seven runs in the final over against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup Super 4 match. He managed to take the game to the penultimate delivery, but it was Sri Lanka who ended up winning the match by six wickets. It is important to note that the left-arm seamer was subjected to severe criticism and trolling on social media after he ended up dropping a relatively easy catch in the game against Pakistan, which India ended up losing by five wickets.
India vs Sri Lanka, Asia Cup 2022, Highlights: Sri Lanka defeated India by 6 wickets in the Super 4 match between the sides at the Dubai International Stadium on Tuesday. Bhanuka Rajapaksa (25 not out) and Dasun Shanaka (33 not out) stitched a 64-run partnership for the fifth wicket to take Sri Lanka through. Meanwhile, Kusal Mendis was the top run-scorer for Sri Lanka with 57 runs. Pathum Nissanka also helped the team's cause with his 52-run knock. For India, Yuzvendra Chahal was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3 for 34. Earlier, India had posted 173 for 8 on the board, thanks to Rohit Sharma's 72-run knock off 41 balls. Rohit Sharma's blazing fifty laid a solid platform for India but the side failed to make most of it as Sri Lanka chipped in with wickets at regular intervals after the departure of the Indian skipper. Dilshan Madushanka claimed three wickets, while Chamika Karunaratne and Dasun Shanaka claimed two wickets apiece. Sri Lanka captain Shanaka had won the toss and opted to bowl first in the game. Virat Kohli remains a key player for India, said head coach Rahul Dravid, who is happy with the refreshed former captain's Asia Cup form and said people should not get hung up with statistics. The 33-year-old Kohli made an unbeaten 59 in India's group win over Hong Kong and looks revitalised ahead of the Asia Cup holders' Super Four clash with fierce rivals Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday night.
Rahul Dravid paused, scratched his head and then continued with an awkward smile: "The word is coming out of my mind but I can't use it here. It's a four-letter word that starts with 'S'. Let's say (we) might not look (as) glamorous." The press conference room broke into laughter. Dravid was responding to a journalist's suggestion that Pakistan may have a much more potent bowling attack than India. Team India's head coach wasn't going to just let that pass on the eve of India's second match against Pakistan in this tournament on Saturday.
