A striker who saw red against Gillingham last month has been handed an additional two-match ban. Sutton forward Harry Smith was dismissed after just 26 minutes of their 1-0 loss at Priestifeld in League 2 over the festive period for a reckless challenge on Gillingham defender Max Ehmer.

The 28-year-old former Millwall, Leyton Orient and Northampton frontman was subsequently charged by the Football Association with a breach of rule E3.1.

Smith has admitted that “following his dismissal, his language towards a match official was improper and/or abuse and or/insulting.” As a result, Smith has been given a two-match ban along with a fine of £750.
