(Photo by Patrick Hamilton / AFP)Nigeria’s Super Falcons failed to end the year on a high, as they dropped places in the final FIFA women’s world ranking in 2023.In the latest ranking released on FIFA’s website on Friday, the Falcons dropped from 32nd position to 34th.Despite the drop on the world stage, the nine-time African champions maintained their number-one spot in Africa.The last ranking which was released in August saw the Falcons climb eight places from 40th to 32nd.The impressive climb was a result of their impressive performance at this year’s women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.At the 2023 CAF awards in Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday, Nigeria won Best Women’s National Team.Also, they will feature at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.Meanwhile, current women’s world champions Spain were ranked number one for the first time.At number two is former FIFA women’s World Cup winners USA, France occupy third, England remain fourth and Sweden drop to fifth.The next FIFA women’s world ranking will be published in March 2024.Get the latest news delivered straight to your inbox every day of the week.
