Stirling Albion title-winner wants East Kilbride success for back-to-back silverware

East Kilbride’s new signing Robert Thomson enjoyed a dream debut just hours after joining from Stirling Albion. And now the striker who lifted the League Two title with the Binos last season wants to claim back-to-back silverware to get Kilby into the SPFL.

Thomson joined the K-Park side last Thursday and 48 hours later he was the difference as EK saw off a spirited Cumbernauld Colts side 2-1 on Saturday, setting up John Robertson for the opener and then heading home the winner from Nathan Flanagan’s cross in the second half.

It put Micky Kennedy’s men nine points clear at the top of the Lowland League and, after making a perfect start, the 30-year-old says he is here to add to his trophy collection. “Everyone is pulling to get the club into the SPFL and that is the goal,” he said. “I won League Two last year with Stirling, so it was an enjoyable season winning that title. “There is an opportunity for me to go and do the same here. “The aim is to win the Lowland League and see where that takes us.” He added: “It was a dream debut for me. “It is an excellent ball from Nathan for the goal.

He has just hung it up for me, I’ve managed to make a good run and get up early and, luckily, it has gone in. “I was anxious to get that first goal and get off the mark, so I’m glad to get the goal so early and, more importantly, the three points. “It was good to setup Robbo.
