Steven Gerrard in defiant Aston Villa verdict as former Rangers boss backs himself to overcome 'great challenge'

Steven Gerrard believes that he and the Aston Villa squad have what it takes to end their slump and get back to winning ways in the Premier League.

The Villians have picked up nine points from their first 10 games in the campaign, which leaves them sitting 16th in the league table, just a single point clear of the relegation zone.

Despite the arrival of Diego Carlos, Leander Dendoncker and the permanent signing of Philippe Coutinho, the Birmingham club have been struggled to score goals this season, whilst looking increasingly vulnerable in their own back line.

Sunday's 2-0 home loss to Chelsea means that former Rangers boss Gerrard's side are the second lowest goal scorers in the Premier League so far this season, having netted just seven times in 10 matches.
