The young opening duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill matched an all-time record in Indian cricket as the duo stitched an opening stand of 165 runs in the 4th T20I against West Indies in Florida, making the run-chase of 179 easy with their attacking strokes.

KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma had also stitched a 165-run stand against Sri Lanka for the opening wicket at Indore in 2017. Seeing the pairing of Gill and Jaiswal script history, former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar took to X (formerly Twitter) to sing their praises.

The highest partnership for India in T20Is is by Deepak Hooda and Sanju Samson, who stitched a 176-run second wicket stand against Ireland last year.

The highest-ever partnership in T20Is is between Usman Ghani and Hazratullah Zazai, of 236 runs for Afghanistan against Ireland in 2019.

India had great start to their T20I campaign in Ireland as they romped home to victory in a rain-curtailed match. However, more than the victory, what was reassuring was the form of Jasprit Bumrah, who was making a comeback after 11 months. He had been sitting in the sidelines and rehabilitating for the major part of the last one year due to lower back stress fractures. However, Bumrah picked two wickets and also got the 'Man of the Match' award. The match had its strange moments too, which could have hurt India.
Virat Kohli is undoubtedly one of the greatest batters in the world across all three formats. Known for his blistering knocks, the 34-year-old batter is en-route to breaking Sachin Tendulkar's historic record of 100 international centuries. While he is breathing fire in the ODIs and Tests, Kohli has not featured in a single T20I match since India's debacle in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022. Kohli, along with skipper Rohit Sharma has been missing out on the T20Is with all-rounder Hardik Pandya, donning the captain's hat.
Star India batter Suryakumar Yadav retained his top spot in the ICC Men's T20I Player Rankings among batters while Shubman Gill rose to number 25 in the latest rankings issued on Wednesday. Suryakumar had a relatively quiet series by his lofty standards with two half-centuries and a total of 166 runs in four innings, but the right-hander maintained his healthy lead at the top of the T20I rankings for batters.
Sanju Samson failed to impress in the T20I series against West Indies. The batter returned scores of 12, 7, and 13 against the Caribbean side. In two matches, he batted at the number 5 position while in one game he came in at number 6 spot. Star Indian player Abhishek Nayar believes that the team mismanaged the wicketkeeper-batter by sending him in the lower-middle order. It is worth noting that Samson usually bats at number 3 or 4 position in Indian Premier League and domestic cricket.
After impressing with his performance in Test cricket and now in T20Is against the West Indies, talented Indian youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal has now become the cynosure of all eyes. He was the fifth highest run-scorer in IPL 2023 batting with a strike rate of 163.61. Fresh from his exploits in the T20 event, Jaiswal made a smooth transition to Test cricket with a century on India debut and then followed it up with a half-century. Jaiswal then grabbed his opportunity in T20I cricket with an unbeaten 84 off 51 balls, his first fifty in second appearance in the shortest format.
Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal left everyone stunned with their massive 165-run partnership during the fourth T20I between India and West Indies on Saturday. Asked to bowl first, the Hardik Pandya-led side restricted West Indies at 178/8 in 20 overs and later chased down the target with three overs to spare. The duo, however, couldn't deliver in the 5th T20I that India lost by 8 wickets. Post this series, Team India will be on their next assignment, which will be a three-match T20I series against Ireland.
