Fans of Serena Williams have been left encouraged by a video of the tennis legend training for the US Open. The 23-time Grand Slam winner announced earlier this month that she would be “evolving away from tennis”.

Making it clear that she did not like the word “retirement”, Williams said she would be moving towards “other things that are important to me”.

Her transition from tennis is expected to begin after the US Open, which gets underway in New York next week, but there have been concerns Williams will not get the send-off she deserves.

The 40-year-old reportedly struggled with knee pain during her 6-4, 6-0 defeat to Emma Raducanu at the Western and Southern Open.
