India all-rounder Riyan Parag emerged as an unlikely chief destructor with the ball as the national team took on Sri Lanka in the first T20I on Saturday.

Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis gave the Lankans a fine start, scoring 84 runs for the first wicket before their chase started to fall apart.

Riyan Parag, in just 1.2 overs, bagged the important wickets of Kmindu Mendis, Maheesh Theekshana and Dilshan Madushanka as India bowled out the hosts for just 170 runs, winning the match by 43 runs.

After the game, Parag revealed how head coach Gautam Gambhir prepared him for different situations in the match. In a video shared by the BCCI, Parag featured with skipper Suryakumar Yadav and all-rounder Axar Patel.

Indian cricket team star batter Virat Kohli is well known for his impromptu dance moves on the cricket field and in the past few years, a number of videos of him has gone viral on social media. Kohli was once again seen having a little jig on the field after he took a catch during the second ODI match between India and Sri Lanka on Sunday. During the 27th over, Sadeera Samarawickrama went for a big shot against Axar Patel but the ball hit his top edge and went high up in the air. Kohli was positioned perfectly at cover and he completed an easy catch to hand India the breakthrough. Following the catch, Kohli broke into a Bihu dance - a dance form from the state of Assam - to celebrate the occasion. The Bihu dance celebration is something that Assamese cricketer Riyan Parag has done on several occasions in the past.
No Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma or Jasprit Bumrah, yet the Indian cricket team continues to march on, securing their second consecutive win of the 3-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. Ravi Bishnoi, much like the first T20I, played an important role in the team's triumph in the second match. Speaking to media in the post-match press conference, Bishnoi only had positive things to say about India's new T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav who has marshalled his troops quite effectively in the island nation.
After being benched for the first T20I against Sri Lanka, Sanju Samson marked his return to the Indian team in the second match of the series on Sunday. Samson, however, was dismissed for a golden duck, after being sent to open the innings alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. The Rajasthan Royals captain, who usually bats at the No. 3 or No. 4 spot in the Indian Premier League, was surprisingly made to open after Shubman Gill had to miss out due to a neck spasm. Though it's only been two games since head coach Gambhir took over, his ideas about the team composition have been made quite clear, especially considering the role Riyan Parag has been given.
India all-rounder Axar Patel says new T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav is a bowlers' captain who allows them the freedom to execute their plans. The spin all-rounder also said that the team will look to maximise its batting combinations in the ongoing series against Sri Lanka. Suryakumar and India made a winning start to the three-match series here on Saturday when they crushed hosts Sri Lanka by 43 runs in a high-scoring opening T20I.
New captain Suryakumar Yadav led from the front with a breathtaking half-century as India comfortably out-batted Sri Lanka by 43 runs in the opening T20 International to start the Gautam Gambhir era with a victory in Pallekele on Saturday. It was India skipper Suryakumar's 26-ball 58 and a 74-run opening blitzkrieg in just six overs between openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill that took India to 213 for 7. Despite a fine batting effort from the Sri Lankans till the 15th over, the Indian bowlers did well enough to bowl out the home team for 170 in 19.2 overs.
A lot has been said and talked about how the Gautam Gambhir-Virat Kohli relationship could be in the upcoming years during the former's reign as Team India's head coach. The duo, who had a huge verbal fight during IPL 2023, have already moved through it. However, the chatter about their bond continues to persist as the two stars will now be seen together for Team India, one as a head coach and another as a player. Another important reason for their relationship to be discussed is the fact that both Virat and Gambhir carry an in-your-face attitude.
