David Healy has claimed Brendan Rodgers was keen on Steven Davis during his time in charge at Liverpool. The Rangers veteran has recently put pen to paper to stay on at Ibrox for another year as Giovanni van Bronckhorst's men bid to reach the Champions League group stages and recapture the Premiership title back from rivals Celtic.

The 37-year-old was a key figure for club and country once again making over 40 appearances and helping the Light Blues reach the Europa League final in Seville.

The midfielder won admirers during his time south of the border with Southampton but ex-Rangers man Healy reckons had he been Spanish, Italian, French or from Argentina then there would have been plenty more noise about him.

The Linfield boss has described Davis as one of the best midfielders he has ever played with and a dream for a striker as he made a big transfer claim over former Celtic boss Rodgers during his time at Liverpool.
