Todd Cantwell was instrumental as Rangers saw off a Servette side to win 2-1 at Ibrox. James Tavernier opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Cantwell was fouled inside the box before Cyriel Dessers netted a second, his first in Rangers colours shortly after.
It was Dessers who was the victim at the other end as VAR adjudged him to have handled the ball inside the box. Up stepped Bedia who reduced arrears just as half time loomed.
Michael Beale’s men would dominate most of the tie without managing to make it count with David Douline dismissed with half an hour to play for a second yellow card and foul on Cantwell.
It’s a slender lead but enough to send Rangers home confident they can get the job done and set up a mouthwatering potential play-off rematch – likely against PSV Eindhoven – in a few weeks' time.
