Pep Guardiola indicated that Mateo Kovacic will have to learn how to play in different positions as he adapts to Manchester City.
Kovacic is the only new face in the Treble-winning squad so far this summer with no agreement over RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol, and the midfielder will aim to replace the bulk of the minutes that Ilkay Gundogan played before joining Barcelona on a free transfer.
City sporting director Txiki Begiristain hailed Kovacic's ability to play as a No.6 or a No.8 in the City system when his signing was announced.
City's latest No.8 played the first 45 minutes of their first friendly of the summer, a 5-3 win over Yokohama F Marinos in Japan.
