Pakistan Set To Play Two-Day Practice Game Against Victoria XI

The Pakistan team is set to play a two-day practice game against Victoria XI before the Boxing Day Test against Australia on December 22 and 23.

Australia's all-rounded performance sunk Pakistan as the Asian Giants ended up suffering a massive 360-run defeat. Originally, this game was not a part of the tour, but Pakistan made a request to arrange the game due to concerns about lack of practice according to ESPNcricinfo.

This game won't be like a four-day Test affair against the Prime Minister's XI, the Pakistan team will get the opportunity to try more than 11 players as it is not a first-class game. "That [the Victoria tour game] was something extra we added into the schedule because it wasn't there earlier.

We wanted to have more practice rather than only one practice game. That had first-class status, so we couldn't give all the bowlers the chance to have a feel," Pakistan head coach Mohammad Hafeez said as quoted from ESPNcricinfo. "That's the reason we wanted to have this practice game, so more guys could get a feel of a match scenario; we felt that would work well.

Australia captain Pat Cummins acknowledged that he occasionally worries about the future of the five-day game but he believes the sport isn't as badly declining as people think. Over the past ten years, the red-ball format has suffered a decline in interest at stadiums and viewership due to the T20s' increasing global appeal. Yet, Perth and Melbourne's packed crowds have witnessed Australia's current series against Pakistan. Sydney will host the third Test from January 3 to 7. Australia are presently ranked third in the ICC World Test Championship rankings and holds an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.
Australia opted Tuesday against playing a second spinner in the final Test against Pakistan at the Sydney Cricket Ground, naming an unchanged line-up for David Warner's farewell match. Skipper Pat Cummins confirmed Australia's fast-bowling trio had all recovered well from the second Test in Melbourne four days ago after clinching the three-match series with a tense 79-run win. The SCG has a reputation for taking turn, but the hosts did not consider bringing a second spinner into the team to partner Nathan Lyon, he said.
