While the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction is just some months away, the uncertainty over MS Dhoni's future in the tournament is still uncertain.

Amid the speculations of his retirement, the player has remained tight-lipped about the chances of his participation in IPL 2025.

Additionally, a mega auction before the upcoming edition means that things are going to be tough for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise if they opt to include Dhoni as a player.

43-year-old Dhoni, who called time on his international career in August, 2020, is close to his retirement from cricket. Hence, it would not be a right decision if CSK decide to retain him as it will fill one of the few slots that the franchise will be getting ahead of the auction.

Star India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin shared his views saying that opener Rohit Sharma will not leave the Mumbai Indians franchise and will continue playing for the franchise in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. Last year, Hardik replaced Rohit as the skipper of one of the most successful franchises in the history of the tournament. The decision from the franchise didn't go down well with some sections of the fanbase which led to some criticism. "Even if you think like Rohit, it's not wrong at all. I don't want any headache. I have been a captain for India. I have captained Mumbai many times. Even if I am not a captain, I am going to Mumbai happily. If I play for Mumbai, it's super. I am sure most players are like that. After a stage, money doesn't matter for some of those players. That's the thing," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

There were some notable omissions too, with superstars like Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, Gautam Gambhir, etc. being snubbed. In Ashwin's XI, as many as four Mumbai Indians players were picked while those who represented Chennai Super Kings, his former franchise, were just two. When it comes to the captaincy pick, Ashwin picked MS Dhoni over Rohit Sharma, despite the fact that the latter has won more IPL titles, especially as a captain.
India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin does not shy away from a bold comment when talking cricket, and it was no different as he analysed Pakistan's recent loss to Bangladesh in the first Test at Rawalpindi. Pakistan fell to a dramatic Day 5 defeat, losing to Bangladesh for the first time ever in Tests. In the game, Pakistan captain Shan Masood had declared the first innings at 448, despite the team having lost only six wickets. On a flat wicket, Bangladesh went on to post a higher total, before the Pakistan batting collapsed in the second innings. Ashwin expressed his bamboozlement.
Noni Madueke, Morgan Gibbs-White, Tino Livramento and Angel Gomes received their maiden senior England call-ups, but Kyle Walker was conspicuous by his absence from interim boss Lee Carsley’s first squad.

Several top stars, including Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, have suggested that they are not big fans of the Impact Player rule. However, some players have also claimed that the 'Impact Player' should keep its place for the upcoming season and beyond. India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin backed the Impact Player rule, saying that it adds a bit more value for "strategy".
India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin backed the Impact Player rule that is prevalent in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as he believes that it adds a bit more value for "strategy". In IPL 2024, the Impact Player rule was a hot topic of debate regarding its implementation and consequences. Since the implementation of this rule in 2023, franchises have enjoyed a lengthy batting unit, which has led to some high-run scoring fest. Some players have opposed the rule, like India skipper Rohit Sharma, for example, previously stated that the restriction has hampered the development of all-rounders in the country.
