The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction saw a distinct trend with fast bowlers being in demand. The top buys of the auction Mitchell Starc (Rs 24.75 crore, Kolkata Knight Riders) and Pat Cummins (Rs 20.50 crore, SunRisers Hyderabad) show that trend.

Even the costliest Indian in the IPL 2024 auction Harshal Patel (Punjab Kings, Rs 11.75 crore) is a pacer. Even Yash Daya got a Rs 5 crore bid from Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Left-arm pacer Chetan Sakariya, who has formerly played for Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals, was picked up by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 50 lakh.

Chetan Sakariya, who has played one ODI and two T20Is, was picked up by Delhi Capitals for a whooping Rs 4.20 crore ahead of the IPL 2022.

Australian cricket team batter David Warner named former South Africa pacer Dale Steyn as the toughest bowler that he has faced during his illustrious career. Warner called time on his ODI career and will also retire from Test cricket after playing his farewell game against Pakistan starting Wednesday. Royal Challengers Bangalore were quite busy in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction, engaging in intense battles with other franchises for their priority picks. While RCB couldn't land Australia captain Pat Cummins despite bidding over INR 20 crore for the star cricketer, they did manage to land Yash Dayal and Alazarri Joseph. RCB's decision to lodge high bids for both Dayal and Joseph didn't go down well with a section of fans who questioned the team's strategy at the auction.
The IPL auction 2024 emerged as an intense battleground where Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Gujarat Titans (GT) engaged fervently to add Mitchell Starc's firepower to their squad. While there was no doubt that Starc, especially after the ODI World Cup success in India, would be a highly sought-after player in the auction, his acquisition by the KKR for a record-breaking sum of Rs 24.75 crore raised the eyebrows of many. Breaking it down, if KKR play a maximum 17 matches in IPL 2024, Mitchell Starc's acquisition would amount to over Rs 6 lakh per ball bowled or Rs 1.45 crore per match. This prompts the question: Does this investment truly justify the expense?
Maiden ODI century, eight years into his international career, Sanju Samson has sent a big message to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee. But, with the ODI World Cup 4 years away, questions have been raised over Samson's continuity in the Indian team. Though Samson is likely to be picked for India's next ODI assignment, India's schedule as far as the 50-over format is concerned, doesn't paint the most promising picture. In fact, former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir is eager to see if Samson is even persisted with in the Indian team after his century in Paarl.
