The Nigeria Navy Primary School, Ojo, has won the inaugural Commander NNS Beecroft Inter -School Championship, which ended at Navy Town Sports Complex, Ojo, at the weekend.The championship, which featured the three Navy primary schools in Lagos: Navy Primary School, Mobil Road, Ajegunle; Navy Primary School, Okokomaiko and Nigeria Navy Primary School, Ojo, saw students competing for honours in football, scrabble, chess and athletics.
Speaking at the end of the event, Base Education Officer at NNS Beecroft, Dalhatu Muhammed, said the Naval education command decided to feature three schools in the inaugural championship to give the children opportunity to hone and test their talents against their peers.“The Naval education administration decided to create a wider platform for primary school children by organising the championship this year. “This is another way of grooming talents from the grassroots and we are happy the parents and students enjoyed the event. “The Naval education command will carry on with this project and also extend it to Navy Secondary Schools.
Nigerian Navy’s focus is to ensure children get engaged in sports, while getting quality education,” he said.Head teacher, Nigeria Navy Primary School, Ojo, Umar Naibi, who expressed happiness over his school’s victory at the event, assured that more programmes would be put in place to make students more productive in sports.“This victory means much to me, because I resumed as head teacher of the school just less than six months ago.
