Newcastle United could move for ‘two or three targets’ in what remains of the current transfer window, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. The Magpies have so far been frustrated in their attempts to bolster Eddie Howe’s attacking options, but it seems they haven’t given up hope of making further signings ahead of September’s deadline.
Howe prioritised improving his defence in the early stages of the summer, bringing in goalkeeper Nick Pope, centre-back Sven Botman and left-back Matt Targett.
However, their lengthy pursuit of Hugo Ekitike ended in disappointment after the teenager opted to join Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain instead.
Yet Howe revealed in a recent interview that he remains ‘desperate’ to bolster his options in the final third of the pitch. “Never say never,” the 44-year-old tactician replied when asked if a forward would sign during the coming weeks. “I’ve been in the game long enough to not give you a definite answer on that. “As the days tick by, it seems more and more unlikely.
